Choosing a MistAway® Backyard Mosquito Control System

Picture
MistAway offers two different versions of its outdoor mosquito control systems.  Our original system is the drum-based mosquito misting unit that set the industry standard.  Our latest innovation is a tankless mosquito misting system that represents the leading edge of backyard mosquito control and outdoor insect control technology.  This unit offers snap-in refills with no pre-mixing and digitally controlled dosing.
Regardless of the system you choose, rest assured that both are built with MistAway’s superior misting technology and backed by our unmatched commitment to quality.

Why MistAway? We Build a Better Mosquito Control System

Picture
The real value in owning a MistAway Mosquito Misting system is being able to enjoy an evening cookout or send your kids out to play after dinner without even thinking about mosquitoes. . . or your mosquito misting control system.
Whether you choose our
innovative tankless misting unit or our traditional drum-top mosquito mister, you are purchasing a professional quality appliance that will provide care-free service for years to come.

Each MistAway Mosquito Control System is guaranteed to be:

Weather Tough:
Although it will be exposed to the elements – direct sunlight, high temperatures, rain, humidity – season after season, you should expect your mosquito misting system to run with little care or attention for many years. From our high quality stainless steel mosquito misting nozzles, to the viton seals on our pumps and fittings, our system’s components are selected for their durability. They’ll ensure that you continue to enjoy the carefree benefits of backyard mosquito control for a long time.
Easy to Use:
While your mosquito control system should require minimal attention on your part, you’ll occasionally need to interact with it. Whether its activating a remote mist prior to an evening cookout and then temporarily turning the system off while your guests are outside, or changing the timing of a programmed mist, we’ve designed an easy-to-use intuitive interface that won’t leave you searching for your owner’s manual.

Smart:
MistAway’s systems offer important features that our competitors’ can’t. For example, all of our systems are designed to prevent a siphon in the nozzle circuit and are capable of recognizing a leak and shutting the system off until it can be repaired.
They can be configured with a sensor so that the system will inhibit a mist if the wind is too strong. And with agitation prior to each cycle, the insecticide concentration of each mist is the same every time.

Formulations Used in Mosquito Mist Systems

Botanical – Pyrethrin
The active ingredient in the formulations most commonly used in outdoor insect control and automated mosquito mist systems is called pyrethrin, which is derived from the extract of a certain variety of chrysanthemum flowers.  Though pyrethrin comes from flowers, it is not completely correct to think of it as either “natural” or “organic” because it is highly refined and contains a man-made “synergist” that increases its effectiveness.  When applied in a mist, pyrethrin flushes mosquitoes from foliage where they harbor and then impairs their nervous system.  Shortly after application, the pyrethrin is rapidly degraded by sunlight, and leaves the yard free of residue.

The Safety of Mosquito Misting Treatment Formulations

Natural pyrethrins and synthetic permethrin are the most common formulations used in misting-based mosquito treatment. They are also important ingredients in insect control products commonly found in most homes, like household aerosols and pet shampoos.
While they are low in toxicity to people and pets, it is not a good idea to come into close or frequent direct contact with the mist. Inhalation can cause respiratory problems (coughing, wheezing, etc.) and skin contact can cause a rash or itching. That’s why on every Mist Away Mosquito Misting System, you’ll see a Caution sign that reads “Do not mist in the presence of people, pets or food.”
The U.S. EPA has
published its findings of a review of pyrethrin and permethrin a used in automated residential mosquito misting systems: “Based on its assessment, using toxicity data and exposure estimates, EPA does not expect risks of concern to humans when these chemicals are used in outdoor residential systems according to labeling specific for use in these systems. However, excessive use or accidents may pose risks. No pesticide should be regarded as 100% risk free.”
